Spreadsheets are a great start. Most businesses run on them for years. But there comes a point where they cost more than they save.
Five signs it's time
- Two people edit at once and someone's changes get lost.
- Formulas break. A single
#REF!can quietly wreck a month of reports. - You can't answer simple questions fast, like "what is pending from Sharma Traders?"
- Staff need different access. Everyone sees everything, including numbers they shouldn't.
- Work happens in WhatsApp. Orders, approvals and updates live in chats nobody can search later.
What to do first
You don't need a huge ERP on day one. Pick the one process that hurts most, such as billing, stock or bookings, and build that first. Keep the rest in sheets until it makes sense to move them.
A sensible path
- Month 1: map the process and clean the data.
- Months 2–3: build and test the first module with your team.
- After launch: add reports, then the next module.
